  • Start of currency exchange:
    - 03.01.1972: Bank announcement that notes of 50, 10, 5, 1 Pakistani Rupees continued to be legal tender (notes of 500, 100 Pakistani Rupees had been demonetized by the Pakistani government on 08.06.1971 and remained so).
    - 04.03.1972: Start of issuance of new banknotes (step-wise per denomination) and coins
    - 08.03.1972: Demonetization of banknotes of 50 Pakistani Rupees (by President's order [Bangladesh Bank (Demonetization of Currency Notes), No. 20] of 04.03.1972); denominations of 10, 5 Pakistani Rupees were demonetized on 12.06.1972.
    - 15.09.1973: Start of issuance of new coins.

  • Currency confiscation (by law ["The Hundred-Taka Demonetised Notes (Mode of Payment and Recovery of Taxes) Act", No 35] of 21.07.1975):
    - The note of 100 Bangladeshi Taka was declared invalid with immediate effect and had to be deposited.
    - Later on, a maximum of 800 Bangladeshi Taka was paid out, excess amounts were converted into non-transferable government bonds.
