    - 03.05.1978: Start of issuance of the new banknotes and coins
    - Between 6am and 12am all cash had to be declared for exchange at a rate of 1 : 1 (North currency) and 1 : 0.8 (South currency), the actual exchange of the declared amount was to be carried out within 3 days (remote areas 7 days)
    - Per household, 100-500 Dong (1978), urban areas, or 50-300 Dong (1978), rural areas, was exchanged from old notes (depending on the number of household members)
    - Excess amounts had to be deposited in bank accounts and could only be redeemed against proof that is was earned from "genuine work".
