Historical Sketch
French expansion into the region began around 1900. Chad was constituted as military territory and protectorate within French Equatorial Africa, several time the administrative form changed between a combination with a neighboring territory and stand-alone. After the Second World War, Chad was transformed into an overseas territory and in preparation for the French Union it got constituted as autonomous republic in 1958. After the failure of the French Union, Chad attained independence in 1960.

Central African CFA Franc
instead of a national currency.
Chad joined the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on
