- The US-based publisher Scott Newhall produced souvenir coins for the "Republic of Anguilla": he had 11,600 (mainly Mexican) thaler-sized silver coins overstamped with the words "Liberty Dollar"; the provisional Anguilla Island Council authorised the mintings and subsequently tried to sell the coins to collectors
